    โ“What is Bitcoin Halving?

This means that every 210,000 blocks mined, or approximately every 4 years, the block reward given to Bitcoin miners for transaction processing is halved.
This event is called the halving because it halves the rate at which new bitcoins are in circulation.
This is Bitcoin’s way of enforcing synthetic price inflation until all Bitcoins are released, and as the block reward approaches zero over time, it lowers the inflation rate and consequently increases the price of Bitcoin. .

Why does the half-life happen every 4 years? This is because the Bitcoin mining algorithm is set with the goal of finding a new block once every 10 minutes.
However, as more miners join the network and add more hashing power, the time to find a block will decrease.
This is addressed by resetting the mining difficulty (or how difficult it is for the computer to solve the mining algorithm) once every two weeks or so to restore the 10-minute goal.
As the Bitcoin network has grown exponentially over the past decade, the average time to find a block has consistently remained under 10 minutes (around 9.5 minutes).

This reward system will continue until around 2140, when the proposed limit of 21 million coins will be reached.

    • After 2140 when the last bitcoin mining is completed among 21 million bitcoins?
At this point, the halving schedule is interrupted because no more new bitcoins can be found.
However, since the value of transaction fees paid to miners is expected to rise in the future, miners will be incentivized to continue validating and verifying new transactions on the blockchain.
This will ensure that miners will still have an incentive to mine and keep the network running, and Bitcoin will have a greater nominal market value.

๐Ÿ’ฐIssues arising from the Bitcoin halving

The halving event is important because the percentage of new bitcoins produced drops once again as it approaches finite supply.
The halving reduces the rate at which new coins are created, lowering the new supply even as demand increases.
This has implications for investors, as other assets with low or limited supply, such as gold, are in high demand and may rise in price.

Since halving the block reward due to halving essentially doubles the cost to the miners, who are the producers of Bitcoin, the producers have to adjust their selling price to their costs, which has a positive effect on the price.
The price of Bitcoin rose steadily and significantly from its launch in 2009, trading at just 1 cent or dollar, until the price of 1 Bitcoin was trading at over $63,000 in April 2021.
Empirical evidence suggests that Bitcoin prices tend to rise in anticipation of halvings, often months before the actual event occurs.

    ๐Ÿ“ŒPast Cases of Bitcoin Halvings

The first halving (which occurred on November 28, 2012) increased from $12 to $1,207 on November 28, 2013.
Second Bitcoin halving (occurring on July 9, 2016) On October 17, 2017, Bitcoin price soared to $18,972.
The price then declined over a year from its peak on December 17, 2018 at $3,716, about 575% higher than the pre-halving price.
The most recent halving occurred on May 11, 2020. At the time, the Bitcoin price was $8,821.
On April 14, 2021, the price of Bitcoin soared to $63,233 (a whopping 617% increase from the pre-halving price). One month later, on May 11, 2021, the price of Bitcoin was $49,504, representing a 461% increase more consistent with the behavior of the 2016 halving.

    ๐Ÿš€Key points

Reward is halved โ†’ Inflation is halved โ†’ Available supply decreases โ†’ Demand increases โ†’ Price rises โ†’ As the value of Bitcoin increases in the process, the minerโ€™s incentive remains despite the smaller reward

However, if the halving does not increase demand and price, miners will have no incentive. The reward for completing a transaction is less and the value of Bitcoin will not be high enough.
To prevent this, Bitcoin has a process to change the difficulty required to obtain mining rewards, i.e. the difficulty of transaction mining.
Incentivize miners by lowering the mining difficulty if the reward is halved and the value of Bitcoin does not rise.
This means that the amount of Bitcoin released as a reward is still small, but the difficulty of processing the transaction is reduced. This process has proven successful twice.

๐Ÿ“ŒImpact of the Bitcoin halving on key stakeholders and buzzwords in the Bitcoin network

    • Investors: A halving is good news for investors as the price of a cryptocurrency usually rises due to a decrease in supply and a surge in demand.
Trading activity on the cryptocurrencyโ€™s blockchain increases in anticipation of the halving.
However, the rate of price increase depends on the logistics and conditions of each price halving, as explained earlier.
    • Miners: The impact of mining on the Bitcoin ecosystem is complex.
On the one hand, when supply of Bitcoin decreases, demand and price increase. However, low rewards may make it difficult for individual miners or small mining companies to survive in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
This is because it can be difficult to compete with large mining organizations.
As the price of a cryptocurrency increases, the number of miners in the ecosystem decreases and vice versa.
However, a halving event is characterized by an increase in price and can cause miners to leave the network and increase the likelihood of a 51% attack on the Bitcoin network, weakening the security of the Bitcoin network.

    ๐Ÿ“ขConclusion

The Bitcoin halving is one of the biggest big events in the cryptocurrency market.
It imposes synthetic price inflation on the cryptocurrency network and halves the rate at which new bitcoins circulate.
This can lead to significant price volatility due to investor expectations just before the halving and after the event itself.
Also for miners, halving events can consolidate rankings as individual miners and smaller players drop out of the mining ecosystem or are taken over by larger players.

    โ“More information

    Bitcoin mining

Bitcoin mining is the process by which people use computers to participate in Bitcoin’s blockchain network as transaction processors and validators.
Bitcoin uses a system called Proof of Work (PoW).
This means that miners have to prove that they put effort into processing transactions in order to be rewarded.
This effort involves the time and energy it takes to run computer hardware and solve complex equations.

The term mining is not taken literally, but is used to refer to the way precious metals are collected.
Bitcoin miners solve mathematical problems and verify the legitimacy of transactions.
These transactions are then added to blocks and chains of these transaction blocks are created to form a blockchain.

When a block is filled with transactions, miners who process and confirm transactions within the block are rewarded with Bitcoin.
Transactions with greater monetary value require more verification to ensure security.

    Bitcoin network

Blockchain, the underlying technology of Bitcoin, basically consists of a collection of computers (or nodes) that run Bitcoin’s software and contain some or all of the records of transactions that occur on the network.
Each full node, or node that contains the entire transaction history of Bitcoin, is responsible for accepting or rejecting transactions on the Bitcoin network.
To do this, nodes perform a series of checks to ensure that the transaction is valid.
This includes verifying that the transaction contains valid validation parameters such as nonce and does not exceed the required length.

    Each transaction is individually approved.
This is said to happen only after all transactions included in the block have been approved. After approval, the transaction is added to the existing blockchain and broadcast to other nodes.

As more computers (or nodes) are added to the blockchain, its stability and security increase.
As of the end of August 2022, there were 15,169 nodes estimated to be running Bitcoin code.

Anyone can join Bitcoin’s network as a node, but not all are miners as long as they have enough storage to download the entire blockchain and transaction history.
