It’s known as the most beautiful Taco Bell in the world and it will soon be the scene of a wedding between venture capitalist Sheel Mohnot and attorney Amruta Godbole.
Actor Kal Penn will serve as master of ceremonies for the nuptials at the restaurant chain’s Pacifica, California oceanfront location.
Invited guests and members of the public will be able to take part in the festivities in the virtual world of Decentraland.
Sheel and Amruta won the metaverse wedding over 300 couples who applied. The ceremony will include customs from their Indian heritage. The two met after being introduced by friends, and became close after hours-long phone calls.
One of their first dates took place at the Pacifica Taco Bell, so entering their names in the contest seemed like a perfect fit to the couple.
Now that we’re getting closer to the wedding day, we’re excited to see the vision come to life,” said bride-to-be Amruta Godbole. “We’re really looking forward to sharing the experience with our friends and family from all over the globe – many of whom may not have been able to attend in-person. Some of them still don’t totally understand the idea of a metaverse wedding, but once they knock back a couple of virtual bottles of Baja Blasts, I think they’ll get in the spirit.”

Decentraland is a 3D browser-based platform allowing virtual exploration. Both the couple and the guests will wear avatar outfits. The public will be able to watch the wedding on the wedding day at this link from 7 pm to 8 pm Pacific Time on Saturday, February 24.
